NEW! Winter 2020-2021
COVID Relief Fund

On December 18, 2020, we received another Colorado COVID Relief Fund for “Volunteer Services & Messaging Campaign”. As of January 17, 2021, we have supported individuals and families with motel and rental assistance, provide food and groceries to our clients in motels, distributed clothing/shoes and camping gear (new and used), connected them to housing assistance, provided additional resources, hired a part-time community health worker/case worker, provided small parts and labor for clients’ vehicle — as well as, spiritual/motivational counseling - education on COVID & alcohol/substance use - OPIOID overdose.
Please apply here if you have been affected by COVID for client services.

Thank you, Durango River Church!

We are receiving a 3-month donation from The River Church for 12/2020 thru 3/2021 for two (2) part-time case/community health workers to help move people on the path out of  homelessness. Our partnership with Durango’s River Church makes it possible to provide one-on-one assistance by additional staff, besides the case management by our executive director.

Community Compassion Outreach COVID RESPONSE Spring 2020

Participating Regional Motels

We appreciate the motels that accepted our clients who were experiencing homelessness and who had underlying medical risks to COVID-19. Our organization has given instructions to clients about isolating and quarantine. It is difficult to control behaviors of others, and we have taken steps to no longer serve those clients with motel nights after issues were brought to our attention. We greatly appreciate the businesses who continued to work with us to accommodate the people we successfully placed.
Durango Herald Friday, June 19, 2020 1:21 PM
Transparency is critical in our work and we owe it to our supporters to be forthright. Two motels have "refuse[d] future CCO reservations to relocate clients" as per the Durango Herald's investigative report 6/29/2020. (Click button on the left).

Wearing a mask protects others!

Whether you know or not know that you have the Coronavirus, it is highly recommended by CDC and medical experts that EVERYONE wear masks when in stores and public places.

Disclaimer: Homemade and donated masks are not medical grade. Usage is intended ONLY to protect others from the person wearing a mask. Masks are recommended by Dr. Fauci, Director of Infections and Disease Control and medical expert on COVID-19.

The River Church Donated to CCO to Help families and individuals during the COVID-19 Crisis — 04/24/2020

An unsolicited Easter Donation was received from The River Church to help the poor with rental assistance, a motel room for a homeless expectant mother of twins, and a security deposit for housing for a woman fleeing domestic violence. Thank you all Believers who so graciously and generously provided us with the monetary capacity to help people experiencing Poverty and Homelessness!  Our organization  appreciates the opportunity to collaborate during this difficult period of health crisis with the COVID-19.

Community Compassion Outreach Responds to Slowing Down the Spread of the SARS COVID-19 in La Plata County

A message from CCO Board President and Executive Director:

The latest CDC and Colorado Coalition for the Homeless informs that any gathering over 10 is canceled until April 20th, at the least. Therefore, we will maintain social distancing of 6-feet from the person next to us at Coffee & Conversations. All meetings will be held by telephone or Zoom/Skype/FaceTime, etcetera. *Our new time for Coffee and Conversations will be from 3:00-4:00pm at Schneider Park.

REVISED 3/18/2020:
Coffee & Conversations (picnic-sharing with the homeless) at Schneider Park will set up at 2:30-2:45pm. Food will be distributed in individual packages and placed in plastic grocery bags to keep items dry. Bottled water will be included in each lunch sack.
  • Bags of individual lunches will be set a few feet apart on the curb or grass (if dry) to allow one person at a time to take no more than one bag.
  • We will have signs to direct the process.
  • Social distancing will be no less than 6-feet from one another.
  • No handshakes, hugs, or volunteer conversations, as recommended by CDC.
  • No person will be turned away as long as our new rules are respected. — THANK YOU!

Any new information will be posted at this webpage as America is taking steps to slow down the spread of the COVID-19.

Our volunteers are over the age of 60, the most vulnerable and those with underlying chronic illnesses causes us to exercise an abundance of caution. It is for their health safety and for our guests that I have asked that our food preparation be distributed in paper lunch sacks. No chairs or tables will be set up, except for volunteers working to place food items in lunch sacks and plastic bags.

You are welcome to click on the links below to learn more about the current recommendations to protect you and your loved ones from the Coronavirus. Thank you for your continued patience as we all go through this time of abundant caution together!

This afternoon, we have advised and have approval from the City of Durango with our procedures in distributing food on Saturday 3/21/2020 at Schneider Park starting 12:30pm-2:30pm.
  • Volunteers will remain in their cars after putting one food item they are bringing into plastic shopping bags that we will set on the curb of the park.
  • Each bag will be 1-2 feet apart so the food-insecure and homeless will take ONLY 1 food bag.
  • We will have signs instructing not to be closer than 6 feet from a volunteer or another person.
  • We may see a Durango Police patrol car that will insure everyone is safe.
Thank you to our Mayor Melissa Youssef, Assistant City Manager Kevin Hall and the Durango Police Department for allowing us to insure the homeless and people in poverty will have food tomorrow. We thank our new volunteers and our regular volunteers who have committed to help us out tomorrow. — The Board of Community Compassion Outreach
